What is VOIP [Voice Over Internet Protocol] – Definition, Features, Pros and Cons

VoIP is the term used for any system that makes use of sound waves to transmit data. The term VoIP was first popularized by the telecom industry as a synonym for IP Telephony. The term is also sometimes used to refer to internet telephony. VoIP is considered a new communications protocol (a new technology) because it doesn’t utilize any protocols that have been around for years, like the older systems. This means that anyone can connect to a VoIP system with the same broadband internet connection that anyone would have to use for dial-up service (and even cable and other high-speed connections).

There are several advantages to using a Voice Over Internet Protocol system. The first is that it provides a much better sound quality than dial-up or even cable services. You won’t have to deal with static or dropped calls; in fact, if you have a good broadband connection, you’ll get the lowest possible call rates. This means that voiP systems are cheaper than many other alternatives, even when coupled with a landline service. Another pro is that it’s easy to set up. Even those with limited technical knowledge can install voiP systems fairly easily.

One of the cons of Voice Over Internet Protocol is the cost of usage. A single phone call can use up to four cents per minute. That’s less than the price of a pizza! In addition, with most landlines, long distance calls are usually more expensive than domestic long distance calls. For this reason, many home users prefer to use VOIP for telephony needs rather than landlines.

One of the main pros is that it eliminates a lot of the cost and hassle associated with traditional telephone systems. VOIP works just like a telephone – the only difference is that your voice is transmitted via the Internet. So, there are no long distance charges; there are no additional fees for maintenance and other issues associated with conventional telephone lines. Additionally, VOIP is much more reliable than the regular telephone.

On the flip side, there are some pros as well. One of the key pros is that your communication is protected from hackers, making it safer than using a public computer line. As an added extra, your VOIP phone will display your caller ID, which many people appreciate since they don’t like having an address printed on their caller ID. While these benefits definitely outweigh the cons, here are a few other things to consider:

If you use VOIP providers, it’s important to note that some VOIP systems require a monthly maintenance fee. Some providers also include extra fees for any additional connections, such as fiber optics, that are needed to reach your network. For this reason, you should compare rates and plans from multiple companies before choosing a VOIP provider. You can use the Internet to find reviews of different companies and choose one that best meets your needs. While both types of lines can be used for voice calls over the Internet, there are some clear VOIP pros and cons that you need to consider before switching your voice calls over to VOIP systems.
